Time For Temporary Tattoos Part I

[beitrag enthält markenanzeige/advertisement] What is causing the current Tattoo obsession? Maybe, it is the striving for individuality, some extreme form of “body customization” and at the same time, an attempt to create your own strong and stable identity.

Once reserved for indigenous tribes, sailors or ex-convicts, tattoos are now perceived as totally mainstream and sexy.

Whatever it is, I have not been bold enough for that yet – for the fear, that the trend might just turn out not as permanent as the Tattoos themselves.

But still, the Tattoo Aesthetic is very attractive to me. This unique decoration of your body is a way to express yourself artistically and it is incredibly sexy. That’s why I searched the web for a good online offer of Temporary Tattoos. The best choice of Temporary Tattoos I could find in Internet was at Tattoo for a Week, online shop at www.tattooforaweek.com.

Now, I would like to present some Styling tips and tricks for Tattoos, generally, and, specifically, for Temporary Tattoos.

A Temporary Tattoo looks just like permanent, it may be even difficult to figure out whether it is a temporary or a permanent one, but it remains on your skin for a temporary period and when the time of the ink or the sticker is over, it washes away.

You would think, a Temporary Tattoo does not give you that stability, the constant identity many people are longing for. But maybe, it does? I will come to this point in my next Blog Posts – there may be some solutions allowing you to apply exactly the same Tattoo, or even a custom-made Tattoo, over and over again, at your wish…

For my today’s Tattoo look, I chose this gorgeous black Extra Large Tribal Panther Tattoo, which I really loved at first sight at www.tattooforaweek.com.

What do you have to mind when choosing a Tattoo – be it a permanent or a temporary one?

The human body is one of the most aesthetic objects in the nature; it has a very complex and a very beautiful form.

In my opinion, a Tattoo should underline the form of the human body and harmonize with it. Here, the same rules of composition are valid as in case of any work of art or a sculpture. No elements of the Tattoo should break the flow of the composition or contradict the logic of the composition. This concerns the form, the place of application and the size of the Tattoo.

Moreover, my theory is, that a Tattoo should attempt to optimize the body form or show its advantages.

Tattoo design is, of course, a matter of taste. My personal preference goes in the direction of graphical solutions. Also, I prefer black-only Tattoos. More about Tattoo styles and Trends in my coming Articles!

In my opinion, Tattoos should also be harmonized with the clothes you’re wearing. That’s why I wanted to present an example of styling with a Tattoo in this Article.

The 3 pc. set I am wearing (available at Elsa Kelli, online shop at www.elsakelli.com), consisting of a top, a skirt and a hair band, suits the Tattoo perfectly as it has an asymmetric skirt, shorter at one side, thus showing off the Tattoo advantageously. Moreover, the straps at the waist create the necessary transition and support the lines of the Tattoo.

Of course, you are more flexible if you are using a Temporary Tattoo, which you can adjust to almost any clothing item the best way. For this Panther Tattoo, I took into consideration the asymmetric cut of the skirt, actually wearing the skirt while applying the Tattoo, thus ensuring the correct overall composition.

I must say, I really had very positive experience with my Tattoo For a Week  Panther Tattoo. The quality, the precision – even at sharp curves and ends – are really impressive. It is a very beautiful and aesthetic Tattoo;  its lines are not too fine so that the Tattoo can be well perceived even from a distance.

Generally, I have always been fascinated with cats, their movements and grace, so a Panther as Tattoo design is one of the best options to me. The design is sexy, timeless and embodies strength and vitality. I especially enjoyed the tail curve at the top of the Tattoo, sooo nice!

How do you apply a Temporary Tattoo?

I must say, Tattoos at Tattoo For a Week are really easy to apply. It goes like this:

Prepare a wet piece of cloth. Cut out the tattoo as precisely as possible, so that you can see its form from the back of it. Then remove the protective sheet.

My personal tip: prior to application, mark the desired position of the Tattoo. You can do it best, if you hold the Tattoo with its face visible. When you later apply the Tattoo, you will no longer be seeing it as you apply it face down. That’s why it is best if you cut out the Tattoo exactly and mark the position beforehand.

Press the Tattoo firmly, design facing down. You will notice that it sticks onto your skin because of the adhesive substance it contains.

Then hold the wet cloth, press down and make sure you wet the whole Tattoo properly; wait approx. 30 seconds (I waited about one minute). Then carefully (!) peel off paper backing. Ready!

A lot of people are curious to know how long a Temporary Tattoo lasts. It lasts for a week, but, realistically, it is best during the first 3 days, depending on how you wash it and what clothes you are wearing. But frankly, in most cases, I only want a Tattoo to last for three days, typically, for a weekend (“Tattoo for a Weekend”). During the week, I do not normally go out that much and have less interest in Tattoos. Also, you can consider applying a Tattoo for some special occasions like festivals or parties.

To remove a Temporary Tattoo, I applied some rich creme (abundantly) and waited till it gets dissolved a little. Then, I removed the Tattoo with a piece of paper – it worked very well.

Generally, the advantages of Temporary Tattoos are as follows:

They are far cheaper than the permanent ones. Permanent Tattoos are very expensive, depending on the Tattoo artist, even extremely expensive. An hour of a celebrity tattoo artist’s time can cost up to several hundred, and big Tattoos with artistic designs can take many hours to complete, which makes such Tattoos a real investment! Also, you have to add the cost of aftercare products & procedures, so the true cost of tattoos becomes apparent. Having a bad design removed is even more expensive, though – several times the cost of the original Tattoo!

Also, there exists the highly debated Tattoo acceptance at work question. Of course, it depends on the profession, the branch and the culture of the company. Generally, most workplaces shift toward more acceptance of self-expression, but there are still certain companies that see visible Tattoos as undesirable. Obviously, you are more flexible here, if you opt for Temporary Tattoos – and for me, it is really a great solution!

Was verursacht die aktuelle Tattoo-Obsession?

Meine persönliche Präferenz geht in Richtung grafischer Lösungen.

Ich muss sagen, Tattoos at Tattoo for a Week sind wirklich einfach anzuwenden.

    • Dear Simplement Lui, thanks for your Comment! I find your comparison with hats so correct! Funny you bring this up, ’cause that was exactly my idea while creating this series of Blog Posts! I think a human body and clothes should be percieved as an overall harmonic composition. Tattoos – just like hats – are part of this composition to me, the same composition rules being valid here.
I don’t think that anyone takes this into consideration when making a Tattoo, these days…..
And of course, you are totally right, the big advantage of Temporary Tattoos is the fact that you can change them! This can help at the decision-making or else, enable you to change the design or fit the design to your clothes…
Thanks once again and see you soon!
      Yours, Natasha (@natasha_city)
