Fashion Mask Part I

[enthält anzeigen/ads]Should we get ready for a long time of wearing personal protection items? At the moment, it certainly looks like that!

Indeed, “flattening the curve” only actually means changing its form, not the number of people infected.

The best you can do in this situation is embrace the new “protective “ urban style!

Since my Combicity Blog is dedicated to Fashion Accessories, I can’t, of course, fail to bring the topic “Fashion Mask” on the Blog!

Please mind: the mask featured in this Blog post is not for sale. This item was re-worked/re-designed by me strictly for my personal use!

Wearing surgical or cloth masks in public is very new in Europe. In Asia, however, this phenomenon has long been common and has even become part of the young urban culture.

Wearing a mask signals a lack of desire to communicate with those around you, providing relative anonymity in the time of expected constant availability & overexposure in the social media.

As pollution, climate change and pandemic infections become a routine aspect of our global reality, it is certainly to be expected that face masks will gain acceptance and become common in Western countries, as well!

So is a face mask just a symbol of the current anxiety or does it have the potential of becoming an aesthetic element, a signature Accessory expressing one’s creative identity?

Over the last few years, brands like Off-White, Fendi, Gucci have offered Designer face masks. They have become so common that a certain Italian digital magazine referred to the face mask as a “real must-have accessory, both in terms of utility and coolness, of the 21st century.”

Ideally, a fashion mask should be, of course, a part of the outfit. Thus, this new Accessory has a chance of harmoniously complementing the overall ensemble. For this Article, I opted for a Black-and-white solution where the mask is playing a quite prominent role!

Also please note: a home-made fabric mask does not even have the efficiency of a surgery mask, and, of course, not that of a respirator; but it is “better than nothing “. I personally would opt for a fabric mask with inlay filters or else a combination of a cloth mask with a surgery mask.

Face mask – really a Must-Have Accessory of our time? I think we should not forget that masks inevitably imply disguise or transformation, in which a person’s identity is clearly altered. Anonymity is often desired, though, if a person acts in an antisocial or criminal manner and does not want to be recognized. So we all hope that this trend will not have a negative influence on the society and enjoy the new urban “protective “ aesthetic!
